Have you heard about what’s happening to Walgreens lately?

If you haven’t already heard about what’s going on between Walgreens and Express Script… well, let me sum it up and tell you. Effective January 1st of this year, Express Script has decided that Walgreens will no longer be in their network of approved pharmacy providers. You can read more about it here if you’d like to, but I thought I would address it here in this blog as well since there’s a Walgreens in this city that I absolutely love — that, and I thought it would be relevant to my readers. Needless to say, this has upset a lot of people who are covered by Express Script’s plan. Now they’re facing having to commute longer distances to pick up their prescriptions, and since the majority of pharmacies out there don’t have the convenient times Walgreens does, this puts folks in a difficult place. If I filled prescriptions at Walgreens, I would be mad too.
However, that doesn’t mean that Walgreens is trying to help those out who have filled prescriptions with them. They have the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club, which they’re even offering a special discount on the annual membership to in the wake of all of this. For an amazing ten dollars a year, a family membership covers everyone that’s in your immediate family — this includes spouses, dependents twenty-two years of age and younger and even pets! Individuals only need to pay five dollars to enroll. And on top of that, they offer savings on more than eight thousand brand-name medication and great savings on all generics. Walgreens even even offers discounts on flu shots, prescriptions for pets, diabetic supplies and nebulizers!
If you haven’t already checked out Walgreens on Facebook or Walgreens on Twitter, I strongly suggest that you do so. Stay informed on what’s been happening with Walgreens through social networking like I am.
