Thoughts on… well, medicine!
Thursday, March 31, 2011 17:58If you haven’t read up on the various prozac lawsuit that have been circulating around the Internet, might I suggest that you take some time out and do so? Some people may not have been told this or wouldn’t otherwise have known it, but all drugs have potentially negative side effects. In most cases, they are taken because the positive side effects outweigh the negatives in such a manner that leads the prescribing doctor and his or her patient to believe that taking said drug is best for them. (I’m a Bio dork, can’t you tell?)
For example, take me. I take Advair twice a day for my lungs, and I’m going to have to get a medical ID bracelet soon to let people know that should something happen to me. Why? Because I’m taking an inhaled steroid for my lungs, which can potentially compromise my immune system. I take Ventolin in case I suddenly have trouble breathing since Advair is supposed to prevent, not cease. Getting used to that involved waiting for the mild shakiness to subside after I took my first full dose of that, but that comes with the territory of all inhalers. And I would much love to be able to breathe, so I will take this.
