More of my religious thoughts.

At first, truth be told — I wasn’t as opposed to the idea of infant or child baptism as I am now. But since I’ve been given a chance to mull it over, I realized that any children’s baptism that I consented to would be more for someone else’s benefit than it would be for their own, because it certainly wouldn’t be for my own. With that said, I would be extremely hard-pressed if not outright opposed to the idea of it now because I don’t see it as being something particularly useful. After all, neither of my sons have yet reached their respective ages of reason wherein they can weigh the various options that are out there and ask for it themselves, so… what else am I as a secular-minded parent to think?

Obviously, if either one of my sons asked for it, I would consent if it was clear that they knew what they wanted. If it was something that they wanted. Even if I didn’t believe in the principles for which I was consenting to allow them to engage in, because at the very least, they’re not immoral or unethical. However, until that day comes, I’m still going to stick to my guns in that I am not consenting for an infant’s baptism — that said, I’d be extremely hard-pressed to consult to an older child’s baptism as well. I mean, come on…

This post was brought to you by some of the time that I’ve spent in the atheist chat that I moderate, and as I write this, I realize that I really should post more to the forums that I’ve been made a moderator of as well. :P I only have until early January to enjoy time off!

As much as I can’t wait to get back to the grind, so to speak, I do enjoy this respite a lot…
